The Sony Walkman WM-3 was the follow up to the now famous TPS-L2 Walkman. Some minor changes were made. The play button was labelled "Listen" on the TPS-L2's and then revised to "Play" on the WM-3. The "Hotline" button remained but now stays down when pressed. Simply press again to release. As with the TPS-L2 the "Tone" switch on the side was replaced with a tape selector, "Normal" or "Cr02/Metal". Cosmetically the dimensions remained the same as the TPS-L2 but the color was changed to black with gold accents.

A special WM-3 Anniversary version was also released. It was called WM-3 Excellent or WM-3 EX. It came in a gold finish and came packaged in an excellent presentation box lined in red felt. These are extremely rare and collectable.

Sound quality in my opinion had improve slightly due to the tape type selector. The WM-3 was marketed as a higher end alternative to the TPS-L2. Similarly with the TPS-L2, replacing the belts will improve sound performance and playing stability. Amazingly wow and flutter is very minimal when adjusted properly.
